Description
Outer Reality is inspired by a profound personal experience that transformed my understanding of how we perceive the world. During a ten-day Vipassana meditation retreat in Spain, where silence is observed and all distractions are set aside, I became aware of my own existence. For days, it seemed that nothing changed. Then, on the eighth day, something extraordinary happened: I entered a deep trance, overcome by an indescribable feeling of love. When I stepped outside, I saw colours in the sky in a way I had never experienced before — blue, yellow, pink and red, forming a constantly shifting palette, as though reality itself had dissolved into a dream. In that moment, I broke free from my habitual way of seeing the world and experienced an entirely new reality, not with my eyes closed, but with them wide open. This artwork captures that fleeting, magical sensation, the moment when our perception broadens and reality reveals itself in ways we never imagined possible.— Merlijn van de Sande
