Michel Tuinman

Michel Tuinman

Michel Tuinman (1988) is a Rotterdam-based painter who studied at the Wackers Academy in Amsterdam, where the emphasis was on artistic and technical development, particularly the mastery of painting techniques.

Having spent much of his youth skateboarding and moving through urban environments, Tuinman developed an enduring interest in the city, which has become a recurring subject in his work. His paintings draw attention to the often overlooked and fleeting aspects of urban life, inviting viewers to reflect on its everyday details and more intangible qualities.

As an artist, I use an authentic visual language to express my personal perspective, working beyond traditional painting techniques. Using brushes, palette knives and rollers, I apply and remove paint to explore my fascination with colour, light and shadow.

My paintings bring realism and abstraction together, combining recognisable elements with room for personal interpretation and emotional response. They invite viewers to draw on their own experiences and memories of the city. Solitary figures in vibrant urban settings reflect the paradoxes of social interaction in modern life.

My work encourages a renewed appreciation of the city and explores the profound beauty of the fleeting and intangible.
